If I could give anything this holiday season, I wish I had Medals of Courage to pass out to all the wonderful women in my life who are mustering up some SERIOUS courage on a daily basis. I’m talking about the kind of courage novels are written about, movies are made and great songs are sung.
Courage. A friend of mine, with two small kiddos, recently single and diagnosed with breast cancer is in the fight of her life. She’s brave enough to video document her battle, fears, pain and strength as a testimony for other women going through this as well.
Courage. Another single mom with a special needs autistic child, gets up and shows up for her now teenaged son every day; giving medication, making sure his needs are met, he’s learning and growing…eating, sleeping and safe. The basic things we all do every day without even noticing.
Courage. Too many girlfriends to count struggling financially trying to keep their houses from foreclosure and their families together.
Courage. Women contemplating huge life changes…alone, after being miserable for way too long whether a relationship or a job. Despite the fears and risks…they are making plans to take a leap of faith and freedom.
I’m sharing these every day stories with you to simply remind you that you are not alone in your own struggles. And struggle as we may, we still get up every day and put on our beautiful faces with hope for tomorrow don’t we? Of course we do, the alternative is not an option! We’ve got dinner to plan, Christmas for the kids, parents to care for, doctor and banking appointments to make, job interviews and dreams to dream…
Instead of bright bows and pretty boxes filled with perfume, chocolate or fuzzy socks, my gift to you is a magical Medal of Courage.
You so deserve it.
